Are You Measuring Your Success?
You should be measuring everything that you do when it comes to internet marketing. So What I should have said for the title of this article is “are you measuring your success and your failures”.
What do you need to measure and why?
Well first of all you need to measure or analyze the traffic that is coming to your website. You will want to know things like where did they come from(or who referred them), how long did they stay, what pages did they visit while they were there, what page did they enter on, what page did they leave from, which links did they click on etc.
So why would you want to know this information? Because continuous improvement is the name of the game. You need to get the most out of your visitors. There is no sure way of knowing when you create a webpage or a sales letter whether or not it is going to pull a good response from the audience. Let’s say it does pull a good response. Is it the best response? You need to test different options and decide which is the best. But there is no point in changing things unless you are going to measure them so you have something to compare to. Once you get in the habit of tracking everything that you do you can easily compare options, or see when things are, or are not giving you a response that you are happy with.
Having said this it would be pointless to send traffic to your website without knowing if they are getting the information they are looking for. I know of so many sites that just waste the traffic that is going to their site, but their happy because they make a few sales, but what they don’t realize is that if they only spent some time tracking and optimizing their site they could easily increase their profits tenfold without doing any extra work or getting any extra traffic.
So before you say you want or need more traffic, how about spending the extra time to tweak your site so that you will make the most out of every visitor, and once you are getting every last drop out of every visitor then you can move on to getting more traffic to your site
In my next article I will show you how to analyze the traffic that you website is getting, and then what to do with it.
